I’ve been experimenting with homemade hummus recipes for years and this is my absolute current favorite made from canned chickpeas. It’s super smooth, full of flavor and quick to put together. The store bought hummus is not really worth it once you know how to make it quickly at home without any additives and of course less expensive.
How to make The Best Hummus
My secret step to make extra light and fluffy hummus is to add ice cubes to the blender. Yes, you heard right! Adding ice cubes to the hummus mixture before blending helps incorporate air into the mixture. The process is similar to making buttercream : adding air to the butter makes it fluffy and brightens its color. The same happens for the hummus. It lightens the color, creating a hummus that is fresh looking and fluffy.
I like to enjoy my homemade hummus with roasted vegetables and falafel or other crunchy vegetarian balls on the side. As an appetizer, the obvious side is bread but I also enjoy cucumber sticks for their freshness. I recommend my recipe for Vegan Chickpea Mushroom Balls.
